About us
The journal "Analele Dobrogei" was founded in 1920 by the geographer and writer Constantin I. Brătescu, together with the publicist Ioan N. Roman, as an expression of the cultural environment of Dobrogea. From the very beginning, the publication assumed the role of documenting the history, culture, and evolution of society in Dobrogea, bringing together studies, research, and contributions by specialists concerned with the historical development of the region.
The journal is dedicated to the research, promotion, and valorization of the historical and cultural heritage of Dobrogea—one of the most diverse regions of Romania. Through the materials it publishes, the journal highlights the history of the province, the personalities who contributed to its development, and the defining elements of its multicultural identity, shaped over time through the coexistence of multiple ethnic and cultural communities.
The journal includes scholarly articles, documentary research, historical analyses, and academic and cultural contributions authored by specialists committed to understanding and promoting Dobrogean values. The topics addressed are diverse and include local history, architectural heritage, traditions, literature, cultural geography, and the role of Dobrogea in the national and regional context.
With the launch of the third series in 2019, the journal has emphasized its openness toward contributions addressing developments beyond the strictly regional framework, including significant national and international evolutions, with a focus on the South-Eastern European area and on the 19th–20th centuries. The declared objective is to increase the journal’s visibility within the academic community and to broaden its scholarly impact. The journal is currently co-edited by the National History and Archaeology Museum of Constanța and the Faculty of History and Political Science of the "Ovidius" University of Constanța.
